Wondering when you should start searching and when you should lease for the 2010-2011 school year?

Off-campus housing at Baylor is usually reserved many months in advance of the move-in date. For instance, if you want to begin living in an apartment in August 2010, you should sign a lease closer to the beginning of 2010 to ensure you have good selection. Last year's leasing season was very long, stretching from November 2008 to about May 2009. This year is shaping up to be very similar. The peak leasing month is usually January and February is popular as well. In recent years, there has been less of a rush to reserve off-campus housing as there are currently more units available than students. Be sure to do your research on Bear Cribs before visiting any leasing offices. How should I start my search for housing?

Your first two concerns are how many, if any, roommates you will have (and who they will be) and what your budget is. Generally, the more roommates you have, the cheaper it will be per person. Secondly, you should decide what your budget is. This is important because of the large quantity of properties. Keep in mind that identical apartments will be priced differently depending on how close to campus they are. The final thing you should do is ask around. Upperclassmen are a fantastic source of info on local properties. They will tell you which managers made them feel appreciated and which may have ignored their repair requests for weeks. Once you prepare for your housing search, the Bear Cribs website will be much more useful to you.


What should I do if I have a low budget but I also need to be able to get to campus easily?

Some properties that are not within walking distance to campus have recently begun offering free shuttle services to and from campus (usually every 10-15 minutes during normal class hours). These are a great way to get to class quickly and at no cost.


How do I post my information for a subleaser or roommate on the site?

Click 'Register' at the top right of your screen. Register as a student, login with the information you entered at registration, and fill out the form on the Sublease or Roommate section.
